Easter Is Way Better Than Baseball
In order to set the feeling of this post, please begin by clicking here. Your media player should open and begin playing an .mp3 audio file. You don't have to listen to the whole thing, but sink back in your chair and listen for a while.

Got it? Good.

Those were some of the sounds of my childhood. I remember hot summer evenings spent with my Pappaw watching Harry Caray's Cubbies and giggling with him as he tried to pronounce their pitcher's name -- Assenmacher. (Sorry, Dad, I couldn't find audio of Skip, Chip, Don or Pete). Man, there is nothing much better than baseball and Pappaw -- or baseball and Dad. As I listen now -- as I did then -- to the famous announcer open with his famous slurred greeting of "Hello again everybody. Harry Caray from Wrigley Field on a beautiful day for baseball," all my worries melt away. For just one teeny, tiny moment, all is right in the world. No politics. No strife. No cares. No nothing. All is glorious.

I had the opportunity to share this with my friends Stan and BK today over lunch. As admirers of the great game of baseball, both of them could relate. Whether it's catching a UT game one spring afternoon, attending a Smokies game after dark or travelling to see our favorite pro team play, we all agreed that not much beats hours spent with friends, family, peanuts and the diamond.

For you it may be something different that causes this brief sense of euphoria: A book and a big, puffy chair? Alone by a rolling brook? On a mountain top with the songbirds? Or on a summer night with the cicadas? Wherever it is, I hope you have a place that takes the cares away.

Do you now understand that feeling? If so, you've just begun to scratch the surface of how the Easter season affects me. Christmas? Ho-hum. Thanksgiving? Mmm, maybe. But, Easter? WOW! It is an over-powering, uncontrollable sense of joy. No worries. No nothing. Just joy. All is glorious. And it lasts and lasts -- much longer than a few hours of baseball.

The Cross is glorious. The Resurrection is reassuring. Hosanna! Hallelujah! Praise the LORD! Again, wow!

This is much deeper than a feeling. This is LIVING!
